He had focused primarily on poetry up to that point, but soon branched out into the world of fiction. His first professional sale was a poem to the Christian Science Monitor Home Forum in 1940. He worked at the Yale University Library before and after the war, where he remained employed until his retirement in 1985. Darkblade Seeker (Hero of Darkness 4) by Andy Peloquin Reviewed by JMD Reid One learns more from Gordon Wood when he is wrong than from most other historians when they are right. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, even when I disagreed with it. While I appreciate its many virtues, however, I have to say that I do not find Friends Divided to be balanced in its assessment of the relative merits and demerits of its two subjects. In classic Wood style, this dual biography is gracefully written and full of his trademark sense of breathless wonder and commanding judgment. All of these qualities are brought to bear in his new book, Friends Divided: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. He sees further and more deeply into the causes and meaning of the Revolution than any other scholar of the last 50 years, and his ability to communicate that knowledge in graceful and engaging prose is unmatched. Wood is America’s greatest living scholar of the American Revolution. “You and I ought not to die before we have explained ourselves to each other.” As addictive as it is comprehensive, this is Bryson at his very best. Chisholm' the Co-Founder of NOW, said that she was “the woman who paved the way for Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama by taking the 'White Male Only' sign off the White House door.” Gloria Steinman The magnanimous political analyst-Donna Brazile recounts her last interview with Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress of the United States of America, who wished “to be remembered as a catalyst-for change.” This play will take the audience on a roller coaster ride to places that land them, right-dab in the middle of the deleterious actions that Shirley adopted in order to accomplish her goals that some felt were impossible to achieve for a woman or for a black. This was not Shirley Chisholm, who was totally dedicated to her work in uplifting actions in fighting, fearlessly, for the rights of the disadvantaged and disenfranchised. Every generation from the beginning of time had the opportunity to learn of the historical accounts of great leaders who fell short in being totally transparent, and as well were steeped in the quagmire of self-servidness. |
